My best ideas for plots, themes, characters and dialogue always seem to come to at the most inconvenient times and in the most unlikely locations. I have a great home office set up, and schedule regular daily writing times, to provide me with ample opportunity to work on my projects. And yet, despite my good intentions, my best ideas seem to come to me when I am on the bus or tram, or in the shower, or in a restaurant, or in the middle of the night! You get the picture.
Rather than miss a key opportunity I always keep pen and paper handy (yes I keep them on the bench in the bathroom) or use the “notes” in my smart phone or iPad. This means that I spend the first half hour of my writing time trying to decipher half scribbled notes and bizarre short hand, but at least I get the ideas down.
